SSL Certificate
Security has always been the key, and that is why we are proud to announce our partnership with GeoTrust, the leading Global Certificate Authority on the internet, to provide you with our highest standard and cost-effective SSL Certificates today.
What is SSL, and what is an SSL certificate?
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It is an encryption layer that encodes information that is exchanged between a client and a server, protecting the transmission of sensitive and private data.
An SSL certificate allows you to apply SSL encryption technology to your site, so that information traveling from it is encrypted. SSL certificates are expected by consumers for any site that handles sensitive information like identity information, credit card numbers, or confidential records.
How does an SSL certificate work?
An SSL certificate is a file installed on the web server that a web site is running on. This file is composed of two segments. The first is the public key, which encrypts data. The second is the private key, which decrypts data. When a client, such as a web browser, connects to an SSL secured server a unique session is created using these two keys. All data transmitted during this session is protected, and cannot be decrypted by any party other than that specific client and the server.
Why do I need an SSL certificate for my site?
If your site sends or receives sensitive information, customers expect it to be secured with an SSL certificate. Many will leave your site if they see that it is not secured. You can use our shared SSL certificate instead of purchasing a certificate of your own. Unlike a regular SSL certificate, it is free and doesn't require a dedicated IP, while still belonging to an equally trusted Certificate Authority.
To use our shared (free) SSL:
- Click the "SSL Manager" in your cPanel control panel.
- Copy the URL under "Your shared certificate SSL"
To purchase and install a dedicated SSL certificate:
- Your domain must be on a dedicated IP in order have a dedicated SSL certificate. If you do not have a dedicated IP, contact support and request a dedicated IP (fees apply).
- Login to your cPanel control panel and click the SSL/TLS manager.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Generate a New Key. Enter the domain you want to create an SSL Certificate for in the Host text box or select the domain from the drop down menu. This should be the name through which the certificate will be accessed (usually the fully-qualified domain name, e.g., www.domain.com or mail.domain.com). Click the Generate button. The private key will be saved in cPanel so there is no need to copy it. Click Return to SSL Manager.
- Click Generate, view, or delete SSL certificate signing requests. Be sure to be as accurate as possible as this is the information that will be attached to your certificate.
- Purchase the SSL certificate. Please allow 24 hours for the cert to be emailed to you.
- To install the SSL certificate, login to your cPanel control panel. Click the SSL/TLS Manager then click Setup a SSL certificate to work with your site. Paste the .key file and the .cert file that was sent to you. Click Install Certificate. Your done!
