Frequently Asked questions
What is it?
What is green hosting?
The concept of environmentally friendly website services is not new. Green web hosting is designed to deliver the same level of service as old fashioned hosts without taxing the environment. Energy to drive the servers is generated from carbon-neutral sources like wind and solar power. Servers are cooled using recycled cold water rather than humongous, energy-gobbling fans. Also, servers and all computers are loaded with toxic metals and chemicals. A green data center replaces servers responsibly, keeping out-dated equipment out of our landfills and preventing these toxins from leaching into our ground water in the future.
Why should I choose it?
Why should I choose green hosting?
Benefits, and lots of them. Green technology, especially in the realm of energy-hungry web hosting, is economical. There is no reason for responsible web hosting to be more expensive. Some web hosts employ RECs (renewable energy certificates) to off-set their energy usage. One benefit of using RECs is that the web host can choose how to invest their dollars. In the case of GHI, Texas wind energy is utilized to off-set the energy usage. This is personal – the company is located in Texas and the top execs are Texas born and bred. Accountability is a core principle of Green Host It. GHI holds itself to the highest standards, serving Dallas, Houston, Austin and other commercial hubs in the state. Consumers expect nothing but the best in Texas, and we hold ourselves accountable to our clients and to the state’s robust business community. Finally, through the use of non-traditional energy sources, Green Host It delivers energy sustainability in tandem with quality hosting services. We recognize that Green Host It has a responsibility to Texas, and to the globe, to lower energy emissions despite the fact that, as a web host, we use a lot of energy. We use renewable sources obtained through RECs to lessen the impact of business operations. It’s a win-win!

Web design cost?
How much does it cost to build a website?
You can build one yourself using the many tools provided, such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and others. A good web host provides hundreds, even thousands, of different templates making site construction simple. Write up your copy, upload and position your images, add a shopping cart and checkout if required and it won’t cost you anything but your time. Conversely…you can hire a professional web designer who can hand-code your web site to suit your very specific requirements. A good web designer is familiar with web site optimization, also called search engine optimization or SEO, and conversion optimization – converting site visitors to clients or customers. If you hire a U.S.-based web designer expect to pay between $3,000 and $5,000 for a basic site that employs search engine optimized text. The more features you require, the more the site will cost to develop. Looking for a custom design? Do you prefer to outsource your website’s design? GreenHostIt offers the All-in-One Website for a one-time $895 fee. The All-in-One Website Design package was designed with the busy professional in mind. DIY or managed?
Self-managed or managed hosting?
The decision to choose self-managed or managed web hosting is a very important factor to consider when choosing your web host. Some companies prefer to be “at the helm” of their own website. These companies choose self-managed web hosting because they want to be “in-charge” or “in-command” of their own Internet presence. Self-managed web hosting is less expensive than managed web hosting. Self-managed web hosting accounts mean that you or your organization are ultimately responsible for the design, programming and function of your website. An inexpensive web hosting account usually falls within this category. Managed web hosting, on the other hand, tends to be more expensive. And for good reason. Managed web hosting offers more features and expertise. With a managed web hosting account, you can expect your web host to be more “hands on” and more involved in the day-to-day management of your website. Learn more about the webmaster services
Web hosting cost?
How much does it cost to get started with web hosting?
You can launch a website free using free hosting services, though this isn’t recommended. Free hosting sites make their money by placing advertisements on your site – and you have no control over what ads will appear. These placed adverts are also a distraction. If you require managed hosting, it will cost more than self-managed. Some managed hosting plans range from $39 to $2500 monthly. Self-managed hosting plans, on the other hand, are much lower priced but you are responsible for management and webmaster services for your website(s). Keep this in mind when choosing.
Do you offer WordPress?
Absolutely! WordPress is a very popular content management system. We offer WordPress and we support it.
What is WordPress hosting?
WordPress hosting is designed specifically for WordPress. With a managed hosting account, you get what’s known as “application level” management from your provider. Everything from the physical server to the programming is designed specifically to support a single application such as WordPress. That means the staff handling the infrastructure knows exactly how to take care of it to provide the best possible user experience. You’ll pay more for managed hosting than shared, but you get more in terms of speed, uptime and security. Learn more about the WordPress hosting
Texas wind powered?
Will my web hosting server utilize Texas wind?
