Green Jobs and Clean Energy, Environmentally Friendly Jobs
There are all kinds of jobs being posted on the world wide web – everything from service industries to insurance to sales – you name it. But, if you have a strong desire to work in a field that is green and environmentally friendly, where do you go? It’s NOT as easy as it looks.
What are green-collar jobs?
A green-collar job can be a job or career that helps to put America on the path to a cleaner, more energy efficient future. That means jobs in the public transit sector, jobs in green building, jobs in energy efficiency — even traditional, blue-collar manufacturing jobs, provided what you’re making is green.
Apollo Alliance is a coalition of business, labor and environmental groups that is championing green employment. It is working to catalyze a clean energy revolution that will put millions of hard-working Americans back to work. Phil Angelides is the chair of the Apollo Alliance, and this is how he defines a green job:
It has to pay decent wages and benefits that can support a family. It has to be part of a real career path, with upward mobility. And it needs to reduce waste and pollution and benefit the environment.
John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have all expressed support — strong support — for green-collar jobs. Although employment professionals are far from certain that green-collar jobs will ever present employment numbers close to mainstream jobs, any idea that can bring Obama, McCain and Clinton together can not be all bad.
Young, Green Energy
Our nation’s capitol will soon receive a powerful infusion of young energy. More than 10,000 young leaders will converge on Washington, DC, at Power Shift rallies.
What is Power Shift?
Power Shift is a conference in which over ten thousand young leaders will gather at Washington DC to stand up for our future. Members of Power Shift stand together to reclaim democracy from big corporations and push our nation to move beyond dirty energy sources that are harming the health of people and the planet.

Is Power Shift effective?
These young people are a force to be reckoned with. They are many, they are vocal, and they are effective.
Juan Martinez knows it—and that’s why he will again attend Power Shift this year. “It’s really a conference that reflects the millennial generation and our core values,” the 26-year-old explained. “It’s really a source of inspiration and renewal to me—just to learn about what’s going on in other communities about the fight against coal and for renewable energy.” Martinez hopes to use Power Shift as an opportunity to talk about green jobs.
